The Schoenberg Database of Manuscripts seeks a full or part-time Medieval Manuscript Researcher. The Database is an online reference tool linking users to over 75,000 searchable entries of manuscripts written before 1600 and consisting of five or more leaves.

The Researcher will add and/or update entries to the Database using contemporary and historical catalogs by 400 dealers and auction houses, as well as inventories from private and institutional libraries. The Researcher may also communicate with private and institutional parties who access the Database.

This opportunity is particularly interesting (and educational) to those currently working or studying in the fields of medieval history, art, literature, religion, science, or languages.

The Schoenberg Database of Manuscripts requires a minimum two-year commitment from its prospective researchers.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualities:

  • Relevant professional or academic experience relating to ancient and/or medieval authors and classes of literature (e.g., religious, scientific, philosophical).
  • Competence in at least one of the following languages in addition to English: Latin; Italian; German; Greek; Hebrew; Arabic; French; Spanish.
  • Knowledge and experience using Microsoft Access software.
  • Effective communication skills, especially through e-mail, with peer researchers and Founder and Director, Lawrence J. Schoenberg.
  • Must be detail-oriented, organized, and self-motivated.
  • Current masters or doctorate students encouraged to apply.
